Facebook uses FQL...
Friend lists are persistent data and are stored in a database..
i dont think a particular datastructure is used for STORING FRIEND LIST

friendlist FQL table is used to store all friend-lists in facebook each having its particular owner. Each item in friendlist corresponds to a particular list of friends which is further stored in friendlist_member table.
