Two files say file1 and file2.
simply open two file in two different mode
i,e file1 in Append mode and file2 in normal Read and Write mode
Now fetch the data from file2 and write this fetched data in file1
file1 will append the data at the last of the file
after that you can remove the file2 ...

I think the interviewer ask this problem is to check the knowledge of read file.
need to use the way to reduce the system call time.
so mmap() is good choice I think.

When the data is more than your memory, you can do it by inserting data into the B-Trees. Primarily insert file 1 data into the tree, then insert 2nd data into the tree. Now write the data in to the 3rd file. This would run in O(n log n).
