if the distinct number of queries in the search log can be put into memory then read each query, hash it and put it in the hash table...find the top K frequendies

if distinct queries cannot be loaded into memory...then compute frequencies of some portion of data...store the frequencies in temp files...and then find the top K numbers from those files

Not sure why someone gave a negative vote but I thought of the same solution.
map reduce where key is hash (md5) of each query and value is count.

Suppose the log files distributing on different machines. Sort the logs on each machine based on the query string. Then count the number of each string by the merge algorithm. Base on that number, put it into a K-size minimum heap. Return that heap.
