The CLR is responsible for giving life to objects that are made with the .net framework (Managed resources). CLR starts the garbage collector.
Garbage Collector works in a 3 generation process.
1. All the objects on the heap with no references are garbage collected.
2. All the objects which survived 1st generation of collection are put to trial again along with all other objects, all objects without references are collected.
3. similar to the 2nd collection all those who survived in the 2nd gen are collected.

Unmanaged resources should be handled within the code, since garbage collector has no knowledge about how to garbage collect those resources.
for ex: we open a stream to write to a file but forgot to close that stream, we requested for an unmanaged resource that was not handled. Here operating systems memory management will take over.
