also when you say a linked list - you mean a stack implemented as linked list right ?

so in other words he wanted you to implement multi-precision arithmetic ?
it's not very hard to multiply two nos using schoolbook method, but there is certainly some technical hurdle..

you should've referred him to GNU multiprecision lib, ie gmplib.org ))
