Before you begin you need to understand some more details about the object that you are testing, Let's take the example of pen
Who will use it? - Children
What will they be doing? - Drawing
On what paper?- Clothes, walls, any surface
What kind of tip does the pen has? will it wash off the clothes? - The ink is washable
In what colors does the pen come in ? Red, green, blue
What different sizes does the pen comes? - Regular, that fits in your pocket
Testing Process:
1. Check if the ink used in the pen is washable
2. Check if the pen properly writes on all the surfaces
3. Check if the ink in the pen is colored red, green, blue.
4. Check if the pen is safe for children ( non toxic)
4. Check if the pen can be help properly by the children due to its size
5. Check if the pen works in spite of throwing, stomping and harsh scribbling

These are hypothetical questions..You need to ask questions about it..like
What is the size of the spoon.
What is it used for.
Of what material is it made etc

Similarly
What type of pen is it ball pen or ink pen?
Size?
Where are we going to use it?
Material of pen?
Color of ink?
etc..
When you have enough data then only you can write test cases.
