well it is exactly what it says in the name: collaborative. group of machines are collaborating together to provide caching services to clients (typically in a WWW setting) providing the illusion of a single cache. Google to learn more.

It seems to done especially in resource constrained environments, for high bandwidth resources like video. One cool thing I read was the usage of counting bloom filters for detecting if none of the collaborating peers have the piece of data. Couldn't get hold of an implementation though.

It is a group of server collaborating to give the illusion of a single cache to the clients. Used in case of massive content sharing eg: Video, IPTV, operating system updates(Ubuntu updates), etc..
