vector is synchronized and array list is not synchronized..
synchronization has performance issues so when ever u dont want synch use array list other wise use vector

An array is the lowest-common denominator for random-access data structures. A vector, using the object adapter pattern, lets the user view an array as a vector.

Vector provides automatic memory management(STL Container)

Array doesnt(thats why u have vectors)
