First cube: 0,1,2,3,4,5
Second cube: 0,1,2,6,7,8

All the combinations are possible.
But wait? where is 9 , as someone told above, 6=9=6....enjoy

0,1,2 have to be on both cubes, distribute the other 6 digits (yes, 6=9) anyway you want.

only 10 and 20 possible...so put 0 on either of the cubes since you already have 1 and 2 on both cubes (because 11 and 22 are possible they need to be on both)....so now you dont have to use 6 as 9...9 can have a surface all to itself

unless you want to represent a single digit date also with both cubes....then all 3 0,1,2 have to be on both cubes which leaves 1 surface less and hence the need to use 6 for 9

Is above OK? instead of using 6 to represent 9 as mentioned above? Seems Ok, since it can present:
1-9
10-19
20-29
30, 31

Jogi, has the right approach I guess.... 0,1,2 has to be on both sides and the remaining numbers can be distributed the way you want.

Cube A: 0 1 2 3 4 5
Cube B: 0 1 2 6 7 8

number 6 can be flipped and used as 9.

Krish got the right way to solve this problem.
There is more than one correct answer.
The rule is to have 0,1,2 on both cubes and distribute 3,4,5,6,7,8.

1st Cube: 0, 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 (6 or 9 will be same)
2nd Cube: 0, 1, 2, 3, 7, 8

So I can get the numbers listed below to represent a day of the month:
01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 15
16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31

My take: 1st Cube should have: <1,2,3,4,5,6> and second <0,1,2,7,8,9>

Date 01 is same as 1 so no need to put 0 in 1st cube. The idea of using 6 as 9 looks interesting.

I would go with:
Cube 1 - 0 1 2 4 5 6
Cube 2 - 0 1 2 3 7 8

Yeah the 6->9 is a great idea.

Technically, I think this still works - even though it's not as 'clean' as the version that uses a 6 that turns into a 9.

cube 1: 1 2 3 7 8 9
cube 2: 4 5 6 1 2 0

on 2 digit days, he arranges the cubes like this:
[ ] [ ]

on 1 digit days, he arranges the cubes like this:
[ ]
[ ]

... so on single days you see 1, 2, 3 etc. (instead of 01, 02, 03...)

day of the month = any number from 00 to 31
4-9 do not have to ever be paired with themselves so they can all be on ONLY one cube.
0, however, can be 10 or 20 but not 30 so you don't need 3 or 0
Then put 4,5,6,7,8,9 on either cube and put 0 on one cube and put 3 on the other

then... cube 1: 0,1,2,3,4,5,
cube 2: 1,2, 7, 8, 9
