this could take me years to finish:

but I will just say few things
first of all you have to know the concept and context or what are you are going to test.
second you have to know all the feature that the product, software or thing has.

then, ask to whoever is asking you to test.

What do you want me to test if they dont know then you can start doing it on your own?

then.. divide you types of testing ( performance, compatibility, usuability, etc.)

then test positives values, negatives values and regular values.
test with the input it is suppose to work well
and then test with the input that it is not suppose to work
then test boundaries.

And if you are in an interview then... never stop taking about all the possibilities that can be in a testing process.

Note: I'm not a profesional tester, but Im getting ready to interview for MS for Testing!!!! so.. If Im wrong please feel free to comment on my comments!!!

Test all features available on the first page. like inbox, sent, draft, compose... on ...on

Functionality testing:
Test cases for sending / receiving mails. With out adding TO / CC / BCC / Subject while sending mails and verifying the proper error message.
Deleting mails - going to trash.
Permanently deleting mails.
Sent mail functionality.
Verify the user information and security settings in which its logged in.
Mails displays per page in inbox, sent items and all other tabs
Verifying the GChat
Adding contacts.

Non Functionality testing:
UI testing
The appearance, Content of every buttons / labels are relevant. etc..

Performance testing:
The time taken for each button functionality
Composing mails for more no of receivers.

Security testing:
Session maintenance.

Browser compatibility testing

User Experience testing

Scalability testing

Stress testing, etc...

Usually the first page is LOGIN page, right?
I would confirm that first before saying test cases for sending and receiving emails
