Polymorphism in the dictionary sense mean, taking different forms. This is the mechanism by which methods can take different forms or (signatures). This is also called overriding. A polymorphic reference type can reference objects of several difference types. For example an object declared 'Object' can reference any kind of reference type. This has a deeper meaning here. If you observe carefully, Object inherits all the remaining objects. So polymorphism is a byproduct of Inheritance.

Polymorphism is not overriding. Polymorphism allows different objects to be treated as the same thing. Overriding means changing the behavior of a function based on its context, i.e. the same function definition has different behavior in the child class than it has in the parent class.
