This doesn't even compile (at least not with C++ compiler in Visual Studio 2010). Are you sure that you wrote it correctly?

return 8 because of i is declare as a double operator

(int)(float)(char) i1;

this statement does modify the data type of i1 . i1 is still double that is why it size is 8
