Is the sequence sorted? If yes, one solution can be to go through the sequence from beginning to the end in linear time and checking if every adjacent elements differ by the same constant

Can anyone think of a better solution?

Nope that's it.

You can't have better than linear because you have to at least look at each of the values in the sequence (it only takes one value to break the progression).
