for a chessboard, the black/white cell should be like this:
bwbwbwbw
wbwbwbwb
...
So, your code color[ j % 2 ] should be changed into color[(i+j)%2]?

To add a little explanation for (i+j)%2==0

If the bottom left cell is 1,1 then all cells where both indexes are even or both are odd are black color. Thats the logic behind it.
