I think, to avoid this scenario pick up pivot in random manner, this will increase the probability of workset divided in equal two.
Hence we can get O(nlog(n))

Choose the partition element from the middle rather than the beginning.

One of the approaches would be to take the first, middle and last element and consider the median of the values as the pivot element

Choosing random pivot makes the probability of choosing a bad pivot(i.e O(n2)) less
