You can reverse engineering the code and inspect it. You can also take the binary and run in Qemu or any emulator to see its behaviour.

based on what programming language it was written in you could try some decompiler and bring back the source code though the code may sometime not so readable(variable names, functions, classes), but most of the logic should be visible
