Start by looking at the differences between the numbers
are there any patterns? is it increasing linear etc.

note that 24/3 = 8
168/24 =7
1008/168 = 6
5040/1008 = 5
5040 * 4 = 20160
The pattern seems to be to multiply the next number by a decreasing number with an alternating positive or negative sign.

-3*-8=24
24*-8=-192+24=-168
-168*-8=1344-168-168=1008
1008*-8=-8064+1008+1008+1008=-5040
-5040*-8=40320-5040-5040-5040-5040=20160

I found this a different way:

24-(-3) = 27. 27/3 = 9
1008 -(-168)= 1076. 1076/168 = 7

At this point assumed the next series would equate to a 5.

5040 x 5 = 25,200. 25,200-5040 = 20,160

So solving like the first two: 20,160 -(-5040) = 25,200. 25,200/5040 = 5
