destructors are called when an object of the class id being destroyed( or is going out of scope ).It is necessary to deallocate all the resources held by the object( like dynamic memory, file descriptor, etc. ).
They are not important in case when the object holds no such resources and contains only temporary variables( stored in stack memory )

Also they are not important in case where the jvm takes care of claiming resources back (through garbage collection techniques).
