I am assuming that int f() {return i++;}

This is wrong as f is constant function, it can not change member variable.

Declare the variable i as mutable in order to modify it from a constant function like f()

As I am assuming the syntax is correct, the bracket placements primarily, there is nothing wrong with the code snippet.
