When synchronizing the ArrayList,means we are taking clinet side lock, whereas with Vector it all methods are synchronized in this object implcitly individually. How it matters is, Suppose you want to perfrom some compound operation like-check then act opertaion, then Vector won't work in thread safe manner,though it Vector is synchrnized. Now if take clinet side lock on ArrayList then this check then act operation would be completely thradsafe.
