read each character in the string and check if its ascii value is between that of 0 and 9. add those characters to the linked list in sequence

you should also make sure you don't have duplicates. it's not clear given the question if we should have the numbers be sorted, either.

if it needs to be sorted, insertion sort while adding the chars in the list seems to be the way to go.

strtok will do it ...thr is no restriction at all
