So basically, this question is about chessboard where we have a player class that can have only 2 objects. Let us assume (but in interview ask the person) that there's only 1 chess board. if there are multiple chessboards which allow 2 players each, nest the player class in board.

class Player
{
  static int count;
  Player() // Private constructor. No one can create the player except a friend.
  { // initialize its members here }
  void PlayGame (); // to play the game
  friend Player* createPlayer ( );
};

Player::count = 0;

Player* createPlayer ()
{
   if( count < 2 )
   {
       count++;
       return new Player();
    }
    return NULL;
}

class ChessBoard
{
    Player* P1, P2; // note that these are pointers to object, not object.
    static int count;
    ChessBoard ( Player* one, Player* two )
    {
         P1 = one; P2 = two;
    }
    friend ChessBoard* createBoard();
    public:
    void restOfTheLogic ( );
};
ChessBoard::count = 0;
ChessBoard* createBoard (Player* p1, Player* p2)
{
   if( ChessBoard::count == 0 )
   {
         ChessBoard::count++;
         return new ChessBoard (p1, p2);
   }
   return NULL;
}
int main ( )
{
    Player* p1 = createPlayer ( ); // will get a player
    Player* p2 = createPlayer ( ); // will get a player
    Player* p3 = createPlayer ( ); // will get NULL. No player created.
    ChessBoard B1 = createBoard ( p1, p2);
    B1.restOfTheLogic();
    return 0;
}
