to make a class singleton, there are 3 steps.
1. Make the constructor private, so that class cannot be be instantiated from outside.
2. have a static method which is with the Class itself and returns the instance.
3. Have a ref variable to have the reference of the instance.

private static A my_instance = null;
private A(){}
public static A getInstance()
{
if (my_instance == null)
my_instance = new A();
return my_instance;
}

this is the naive implementation which ignores thread safety.

why do you worry about thread safety issues of singleton when you have first class IOC containers at your disposal.
