What if the property FullName static? maybe in such a case, the method will actually return that value and no null reference exception will be generated?

If FullName property is static, it can be called only Person.FullName way.
In C# you can't call static member from instance variable.
Assume that this code compiled well. No more information available for class Person.

this method can never return a non-empty string by itself. my only guess is to put a breakpoint on line "return person.FullName;" and use the debugger to assign a non-null value to person and hit f5 :)

i guess one may try overloading the assignment implicitly and manipulate the instance when an attempt of null assignment takes place. public static implicit operator Person(object person)..
