Java genericc feature has been introduced from Java 5 version onwards. It's simply type safety mechanism. if we have generic collection at the time of storing objects, then compiler will always check about the type of object.Similarly at the time fetching objects from generic collection there is no requirement of type casting. For eg. if we have List<EmployeeDTO> lst=new ArrayList<EmployeeDTO>(); in that case compiler will have check, only EmployeeDTO objects are permissible, at the time storing values in lst.

Similarly while fetching no need to require typecasting.

generic class is similar to templates in c++.
they allow "a type or method to operate on objects of various types while providing compile-time type safety
