the only difference I know is that C++ has more vigorous type check. e.g. in C you can do:
bus* b;
car* c;
void* v;
v=b;
c=v;
while in C++ you cannot do that

It depends on how you get your pointer. Pointers created by the new operator actually contains extra information compared to those created by malloc().
