Java has no advantages over c++, except for being open source and platform independent.
c++ on the other hand supports xle inheritance and pointers(=>more powerful), and is usually more efficient than Java.

Java is portable with the virtual machine. It does automatic garbage collection (No need for destructors) and has a run time type checking mechanism. The syntax is argubly more intuitive.
