if u r using c then change the function and its prototype as
void newBuffer(char** outBuffer, size_t sz) { *outbuffer = (cha*)malloc(sz); }the logic behind both is that in main foo should be assigned by the value obtained by new/malloc in newBuffer function so deal with reference.
