Maternity leave
Hi Gayle, thanks for replying! I am now 1 year and 8 months off and seems to start working when my daughter will be 2 years because we recently moved to US from another country and I have to spent some time to settle in here. Anyway, during my maternity leave I read news and some books to stay updated about the changes happen in technologies and also planning to get new MS certificate in database administration (I already have MCDBA) before I start working. I tried to find some freelance job while on leave but was unable to.
There's no reason to specify that you were on maternity leave, unless asked.
What I would focus on doing is spending more time actually *building* and improving your experience (these projects should go on your resume).
Gayle, many thanks for your opinion!
As long as I am a DBA, my previous experience mostly involves work with large production database systems which I can hardly represent in minor projects that developers usually design in their own time. Anyway, I'll try to do something interesting.
P.S. Your book "The Google Resume" is great! You've done a good job and it really helps to prepare for the job interview in all aspects. I used it as a guide and feel that my resume now looks somehow unique. I am looking forward to read your other books!
Thanks Helen. I'm glad you enjoyed the book. If you get a chance, is there any way you could post a review on Amazon? :)
How much time did you take off? Did you do anything coding-related during that time (projects, etc)?
